Do you know what your arteries look like?

Cholesterol is a waxy substance that your body needs to function properly. Our bodies produce all the cholesterol we need and therefore it is not necessary to consume additional cholesterol… but we do. There are two types of cholesterol: LDL (the bad cholesterol) and HDL (the good cholesterol). High levels of LDL in your blood increases your risk for heart disease. It can build up and form plaque on your artery walls, blocking blood flow, which can eventually lead to a completely blocked artery. High HDL levels actually lower LDL levels and reduce your risk of heart disease. Saturated fats such as whole milk and red meats along with trans fats raise LDL levels. Foods with these types of fats should be limited.
